Most of my best ideas come to me once I discover I have a need. In this case, I need a new bed mattress. So I started researching the subject.

Keetsa Mattress Reviews.Keetsa has innovated with what they have trademarked as Bio-Foam™.  It is a new type of memory foam that replaces a portion of petroleum oil use with natural plant oil, named castor bean oil. Besides accounting for less dependency on the oil industry, why is this important? It is important because this foam has no detected harmful VOCs and no detected formaldehyde. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids, (VOCs include a variety of chemicals).  This sounds much more eco-friendly to me, as, most other memory foams are made with 100% petroleum oil, and emit harmful VPCs. This is not very eco- friendly.

Keetsa Latex mattresses feature a latex top layer that uses all natural latex rubber. Latex is naturally anti-bacterial, mildew and mold resistant. It is naturally antimicrobial. BTW, dust mites can’t live in it and it has natural anti mildew properties.Keetsa departs from typical industry practices and uses unbleached cotton fabrics, bamboo blend fabrics and organic cotton fabrics for their mattress covers. As typical cotton fabrics are bleached or dyed to achieve a more pleasing appearance, the problem is that the bleaching process exposes the materials to chemicals.

By using unbleached and uncolored cotton fabric, Keetsa is lessening the exposure to chemicals that are used in the bleaching process. Most permanent-press and stain and water-repellant finishes can “off gas” formaldehyde… and the manufacture of these substances releases PFOA into the air.

The Keetsa Latex mattress uses all natural 100% wool padding for our fire barrier. This is different from big name Brand mattress companies. They each have their version of chemical fire retardants in order to pass the very stringent burn test that federal statute 16 CFR, Part 1633, requires for a sample of every mattress sold today. These fire blockers are “trade secrets” of the manufacturers, incorporated in the form of a fabric, fiber or a spray.

The FDA isn’t in the approval business for these chemicals since you are not eating them. So, the manufacturers are not required by law to either label them on products that use them nor are they required by law to test them for side effects over long time usage. Isn’t that nice?

Therefore as you buy a conventional mattress you are breathing whatever out-gases emitted from these chemicals…night, after night, after night, for years and years. How does that sound to you? Do you really want to risk the unknown consequences?
